Our Story

The story of Giulana begins nearly a century ago on a small farm in Italy. 

 

Growing up during the 1920s and 1930s, my grandmother, Tina, and her family spent their days working outdoors, constantly exposed to the harsh sun, wind, and weather. At the time, commercial beauty products were expensive luxury items only sold in major cities. Out of necessity, Tina turned to the natural ingredients around her—crafting her own botanical recipes to protect and nourish her loved ones' skin.

 

What started as a practical daily solution would eventually become the foundation of Giulana.

Over the years, Tina carefully perfected her remedies, documenting every ingredient blend and observation in a handwritten diary. Driven by a desire to create the gentlest care possible, she refined her mixtures to deliver real, healthy results. Within our family, these treasured notes became known as Ricetta di Nonna—"Grandmother's Recipe."

Decades later, I discovered this diary and became fascinated by the wisdom inside it. Moved by her dedication, I began exploring how these traditional recipes could be beautifully adapted for modern skincare.

From Family Tradition to Modern Skincare

Hi, I'm Mark Leigh, founder of Giulana Skincare.

For many years, friends and family came to me for skincare advice. Many of the women I spoke with were deeply frustrated by products that felt too aggressive for dry, sensitive, or changing skin. It seemed the modern industry prioritized harsh treatments over true nourishment and comfort.

As these conversations continued, I thought of my grandmother, Tina. Could a gentler approach to care still hold a vital place in the modern world? As I studied her diary, I saw that her work was guided by a remarkably clear purpose. Her focus wasn't on temporary quick fixes, but on helping the skin remain healthy, resilient, and protected against the elements. Her philosophy felt just as meaningful today as it did nearly a century ago.

 

Over the next four years, I immersed myself in skincare science, collaborating with leading chemists and herbalists to modernize the original remedies. My goal was to enhance my grandmother's work using contemporary research, while fully preserving the soul of her philosophy.

While maintaining this gentle approach to skincare, we enriched the formulas with premium Australian botanicals to boost performance, and incorporated modern preservation to ensure complete safety and stability. Certain ingredients were upgraded with cleaner, more effective alternatives—perfectly marrying generations of wisdom with modern dermatological science.
